Urology Conditions

Urology is a very varied branch of surgery encompassing diseases of the kidney, bladder and prostate. In keeping with current urological practice, Mr Wedderburn and Miss Bromwich offer a general urology service and subspecialist interests.

Much of urology can be dealt with in the outpatient setting and only a relatively small amount requires surgery. Over the last twenty years, urology has been at the forefront of laparoscopic and robotic (keyhole) surgery and fibre optic and endoscopic techniques.

Mr Wedderburn offers a general urology outpatient service with specific interests in uro-oncology. He does not offer a paediatric service.

Miss Bromwich offers a general urology service for both men and women, but has a particular interest in stone disease of the upper and lower urinary tract.

Prostate cancer

For men concerned about prostate cancer or who have recently been diagnosed the Prostate Cancer UK website offers sensible and helpful information.

There are often many difficult choices to made once a diagnosis of prostate cancer has been made. This varies depending upon the type or grade of the cancer, the amount, the patient’s general health and wishes. Mr Wedderburn will guide you through this process. All men recently diagnosed with prostate cancer are discussed at the Urology Multidisciplinary Team Meeting (MDT) of University Hospitals Dorset. At this meeting each individual case is discussed and reviewed by urological and clinical oncology colleagues, uro-radiologists and pathologists.

For non-malignant conditions cases are discussed at the weekly non-cancer MDT.
